NORTH SMITHFIELD – A woman accused of chasing down her ex-boyfriend and driving her vehicle into his truck multiple times, pinning it against a fence and causing front end damage, was arrested by North Smithfield police and is now facing felony charges.

Amanda Plante, 38, of North Smithfield was charged with felony counts of assault and domestic assault, and misdemeanor charges of failure to stop for an accident, reckless driving, disorderly conduct and vandalism following the incident on Saturday, March 15.

According to the arrest report, police were called to Canal Street for reports of a motor vehicle accident where one of the cars had left the scene. The remaining driver told officers that Plante was his ex girlfriend, and that she spotted him at Luc’s Bar & Grill in Woonsocket and chased his truck as he tried to leave the area, passing other vehicles in attempt to keep up.

On Canal Street, the victim said Plante drove directly at his vehicle on the wrong side of the road as he tried to escape in reverse, ultimately crashing head on into his truck. The victim and a passenger said Plante struck them four times with her GMC Yukon, also pinning the truck, up against the fence of the Link Environmental Transfer Station.

They said she then got out of her vehicle, and began swearing and banging on the passenger window while the car was trapped. Plante eventually got back in her vehicle and drove away, headed toward Saint Paul Street, the pair said

When police contacted Plante, she reportedly claimed to be in Connecticut, and said she had no knowledge of an accident, but would not give officers the address.

Plante reportedly turn herself at at police headquarters on Monday, March 17, and admitted she had “bumped” the other vehicle, saying that she’d made a poor decision. Her past criminal record includes multiple assault charges, violation of a no contact order and falsely reporting a crime.

She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance and is due back in court in June.
