At the library

Those looking for things to do with the kids this week will find some from Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane, where they’ll host Bubble Balooza for kids on Thursday, April 23 on the Riverwalk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The library will have large bins of bubble solution and bubble wands set up as well as a bubble machine and large bubble ropes/wands to make gigantic bubbles. No registration is needed for the drop-in style program, to be held weather permitting. Kids under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult or a responsible caregiver over the age of 13.

On Friday, April 24, the library will host Circus Dynamics’ Juggling and Balloon Variety Show for kids and families on the pavilion lawn starting at 1 p.m. Families are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets, and no sign ups are needed.

The library will host a program on planting seeds on the Riverwalk on Saturday, April 25 from 2 to 3 p.m., open to kids in kindergarten through grade 5 with an adult caregiver. The library will provide egg cartons and dirt, and kids are invited to drop in to start seeds that they will take home with them. No sign ups needed for the program to be held while supplies last.

In the case of inclement weather, the circus and seed programs will be moved inside to the children’s program room.

Members of the Burrillville Conservation Commission joined in the town’s Earth Day activities with a litter cleanup on Saturday covering four locations: Lapham Farm Road Conservation Area, Union Pond Park off High Street, Duck Pond walking trails, and the Pascoag side of the Bike Path. In total, they collected 19 bags of trash, three vehicle tires, and an old couch. Credit: Burrillville Conservation Commission

On Wednesday, April 22, it’s programs working with bleach bags and making possum stuffies, and on Thursday, April 22 the studio will offer classes making pinecone mobiles and fairy gardens.

Staffing revote

Registered voters in the Pascoag Fire District will have the chance to weigh in once again on the question of staffing a second rescue at a meeting to be held at the station at 141 Howard Ave. starting at 7 p.m. A previous vote on the issue held in March failed by a small margin.

See the agenda for the meeting here or read more about the previous vote here.

Open Mic

First Universalist Church at 134 Harrisville Main St. will host an open mic night on Tuesday, April 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. Musicians and poets are invited to share songs and/or poems in front of an audience. All are welcome to share talents or just enjoy the evening’s entertainment.

Performers are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start to sign up, and will have 10 minutes or two songs, or five minutes/two poems. If they get through the list early, there will be a second ‘lightning round.’ The event is free to attend, but donations are welcome to support preservation efforts for the historic church.
