
Operation Twisted Steel
Ponaganset High School Principal Amanda Grundel has notified the community that students who are in classes for emergency response services will be participating in high-intensity training on Thursday, April 30, starting at 9 a.m. with a crash simulation designed to test life-saving skills. A crash simulation dubbed “Operation Twisted Steel” is also intended to serve as sobering reminder of the responsibilities that come with driving a vehicle.

The scenario involves a two-vehicle collision with entrapment, a simulated fatality and DUI investigation and local fire, police and EMS will be on site for the operation, along with a medflight integrated into the drill.
“This isn’t just a demonstration, it’s a test of leadership and technical skills for our students,” noted Grundel, adding that the public should not be alarmed by the presence of emergency personnel at the school.
Working group
A new Glocester and Foster Glocester Regional Schools Fiscal Strategy & Advocacy Working Group will hold their first meeting on Thursday, April 30, starting at 2:30 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The group will discuss state level advocacy initiatives, regionalization inquiry for voters and community communication development.
May Breakfast
Troop 44 Glocester will hold its annual May Breakfast on Saturday, May 2 from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at Chepachet Union Church at 1138 Putnam Pike. The scouts will hold be collecting Dino’s receipts and canned goods for the church’s food pantry.
The cost of the breakfast is $12 per person and all proceeds will go toward sending the scouts to Camp Yawgoog this summer.
Wine tasting
A wine tasting and dinner will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Crystal Lake at 100 Broncos Highway in Mapleville to benefit the Sand Dam Reservoir Association. The event will feature a 4-course meal, with musical entertainment by Six Down, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.

Live music
James Gagne will perform at Cady”s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike on Friday, May 1 starting at 7:30 p.m. and Juniper Vibe will be at the tavern on Saturday, May 2 with a show starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the tavern’s weekly Roadhouse Blues Jam starts at 3 p.m.
On Saturday at Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike, King’s Court presents The Springtime Massacre with The Kulling, Rose Lane, Wrath of Hades, Prymora and more with music starting at 2:30 p.m. So Many Rhodes will be at Hill’s on Sunday, May 3 starting at 2 p.m.
