Trivia night for Evan’s Crew

Join Evan’s Crew at Village Haven tonight, Friday, Jan. 31, for a fun night hosted by Graham WiseGuys Trivia. There will be a cash bar, light snacks and raffle items. Check in starts at 6:30 with trivia to start at 7:30 in the Waterford Banquet Room.

Funds raised will to toward the Evan T. Mandeville DIPG Research Fund at Dana-Farber in memory of a young boy who who was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable brain tumor, and died in 2012.

Live music

Visit Uncle Ronnie’s Red Tavern tonight to catch rock cover band Keturah’s Dream in a show starting at 9 p.m.

Return to the tavern at 2692 Victory Highway on Sunday to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers at their party for Super Bowl LIV.

Football Mania

Take the kids to Jesse Smith Memorial Library on Saturday for a chance to burn off some energy – and get pumped for Sunday’s big game. The library will host “Football Mania,” a drop in program for kids 10 and under, with stations for hands on fun from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

This week, Burrillville Lions Club President Gregg Devlin presented books to Susan Dubois, director of the North Smithfield Library. The donation was in keeping with the Lions Clubs International’s mission to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the quality of life for those diagnosed.

Winter musical

Recital students of artistic and educational director Britany Dyer will perform in a winter musical on Saturday, Feb. 1 starting at 1 p.m. at the Assembly Theatre. Refreshments will be served following the free event.

Open house

Harrisville Pre-school will host an open house and registration event on Saturday, Feb. 1 enrolling students for the fall semester. Visit the school at 474 Chapel St. from 9 a.m. to noon or call 568-6095 for more information.

Great Road gas station opens its doors

A new 24-hour gas station and market – which includes the area’s first Honey Dew Donuts – has opened up on Great Road. The business has been closed for the past several months for renovations and demolished the repair shop on the premises, installed more pumps, built a market and coffee shop, and applied for the extended hours.

Parent and student volunteers prepared on Friday for a painting project at AT Levy, which took place over the weekend.

The Burrillville School Department thanked parent and student volunteers who painted doors at AT Levy Elementary School on Saturday, Jan. 25. Students helped to prepare the area on Friday for the project, which was completed over the weekend.

Open house

Duquette Family Eye Care will host an open house on Saturday, Feb. 1 in celebration of the business’s 10th anniversary. They will have refreshments, a raffle, swag bags, and free eye health screening at their location at 621 Pound Hill Road from 3 to 6 p.m.

Arthritis workshop

Nestor Physical Therapy will host an arthritis workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at their office at 261 Main St., Suite 101. Learn about the disease and methods of treatment in this free question and answer session. Registration is required and limited to the first 20 people. Call (401) 356-4777 to register.

Pumpkinfest announced, planning begins

The 2020 PumpkinFest Committee has announced that planning has begun for the 14th annual event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of North Smithfield High School.

The first committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. at
R&R Machine Industries, Inc., 147 Industrial Drive, North Smithfield.

The scholarship application for 2020’s graduating seniors is also now available, and must be submitted by May 1 to be considered for this year’s scholarship. The application can be found here.

Heritage gala

The North Smithfield Heritage Association has announced the date of the 2020 Heritage Gala. The event, an opportunity to support NSHA’s community preservation activities, will be held at the Village Haven on Saturday, March 14 from 6 to 10 p.m., and will include dinner, cocktails, a penny social, a live auction and dancing.

Tickets cost $25 each and can be purchased at the Memorial Town Hall starting Feb 1 or by mailing a check payable to “NS Heritage Assn” to P.O. Box 413, Slatersville, RI. Indicate the number of tickets you want and include a return address. You may also purchase tickets by contacting NSHA by email at [email protected]. The deadline for purchase is March 5.

The association is also seeking auction items for the event.

Wild game dinner

Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club is now selling tickets for their annual Wild Game Dinner to be held on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 1 p.m. Tickets can be requested by email only at [email protected].

Tickets cost $35 and will be available for pick up every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Club House, and must be paid for at that time.
