Welcome to Rhode Side Sports NOW with Joe, a new feature on NRI NOW.
Each week, sports guru Joe Gallant will highlight standings from the week, with a look at the teams in Northern Rhode Island.
This week, Joe continues to watch boys’ hockey, looking back first at some shots from last Friday’s match against Bishop Hendricken.
Division 1: Broncos take the Sentinels
Burrillville had its winning streak snapped vs Bishop Hendricken on Friday, Jan. 31 with a final score of 4-1.
But the Broncos were on the road last night at Smithfield to take on the Sentinels, who sat right above the Broncos in the Division 1 standings. The team came through with a resounding win, besting the Sentinels 7-1.
Division 2: Nothin’ like Home Cooking
North Smithfield looks to turn it around tonight, Saturday, Feb. 8, after back to back losses on the road to PCD/Saint Rays/Wheeler/co-op 6-0 & non-league 6-1in Foxborough Monday afternoon.
“They were a heavy team that brought it from the jump,” said Coach Ben Shatraw on WNRI’s “The Joe Show” Friday. “Unfamiliar rink, big physical team a real good challenge for the boys. These types of losses teach you about yourselves and help down the road building team chemistry and confidence.”
