BURRILLVILLE – A man who reportedly drove his truck off the roadway and crashed into a stone wall on Steere Farm Road earlier this month was arraigned this week on charges of driving under the influence.
Scott Dolinski, 40, of Burrillville also received citations for refusal to submit to a chemical test, lane roadway violations, failure to reduce speed and operating without insurance following the incident on Thursday, Feb. 6.
According to reports, police were called to the area just after 8 p.m. for a motor vehicle accident with no injuries. At the scene, they observed a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 at rest against a stone wall in front of a residence with “catastrophic” damage to the front passenger bumper.
A nearby mailbox was destroyed, and furrow marks from the vehicle reportedly stretched some 25 feet away from the truck. The airbag had been deployed, and the operator, later identified as Dolinski, was outside of the vehicle.
Officers documented signs of intoxication, but Dolinski reportedly said that he had hit a patch of black ice. The report notes that temperatures were in the upper 30s with light rain.
“Mr. Dolinski stated he did not have any recollection of the accident,” the report notes. “He denied losing consciousness and stated he closed his eyes after losing control of the vehicle.”
Officers administered sobriety tests and concluded Dolinski was unfit to operate a motor vehicle. He was arrested under suspicion of operating under the influence, and later, reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Dolinski pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and has a pretrial arraignment scheduled for Tuesday, March 3.
