BURRILLVILLE – Photographs of “favorite places” in Burrillville were submitted to NRI NOW this week for a contest that will see the five best printed for inclusion in a time capsule, to be buried in conjunction with the town’s Earth Day celebration.

The photo competition, put on by the Burrillville Earth Day Committee, gives readers a chance to send in a picture of their favorite place in town, with the hope to show those who dig up the time capsule in 50 years how the town looked in 2020.

In the upcoming weeks, we’ll publish the pictures that come in, and readers will have the chance to choose the winners.

Readers are invited to submit up to three photos by emailing [email protected] or via the NRI NOW Facebook page.  Photos must include your name and the location where the picture was taken. They can also include a sentence or two on why you love the place and/or, how you think it might look in 50 years.

Below is the first set of submissions.

“This is a shot of the Waterfall in Harrisville taken during one of my early morning walks around downtown Harrisville. It is just very calming to listen to and a nice image of one of the most recognizable parts of downtown Harrisville.”
Jim Kollett Jr.
“Here is a photo of the tri-state marker. If you are standing on the RI side you are in Burrillville. This is a cool spot because you can literally be in 3 states at once.”
Amy Chartier Shayer
“This is a shot of one of my favorite areas of town. This is Hauser Field after practice. Many young athletes have practiced Football and Cheer on this field and this was one night after practice was over, just before the lights went out. Knowing the chaos of the previous 2 hours, it is just a nice serene calming picture. I have been a coach for several years and to me and many others, a lot of time has been spent on this field molding young athletes and for the athletes practicing and honing their respective craft.”
Jim Kollett Jr.
“Picture of the side of my house in Oakland, snow on the ground. Please note the Burrillville police station in the background.”
Dianna Razzano
“This is a shot of the stream running under the Railroad Street Bridge in Harrisville. Close to the walking path and an area where multiple people walk around town. I have walked by several times and just found it to be one of those hidden spots that are great to look at and admire that not a lot of people take notice of.”
Jim Kollett Jr.

Do you think a picture of your favorite place should be included in the time capsule? Submit it to NRI NOW before the deadline on Friday, March 20.
