NORTH SMITHFIELD – Members of the Class of 2020 waved from decorated vehicles on streets lined with locals who hoped to wish them well in advance of commencement services scheduled for this week.
The parade on Thursday, June 4 was organized by a group of parents as a way to celebrate the graduating seniors amid distancing rules that would keep many from attending the formal graduation.
A long caravan of cars departed from Pacheco Park at 6 p.m., visiting the former Halliwell Elementary School and North Smithfield Elementary before landing at the high school.
The graduation is scheduled to take place on the athletic fields at the high school but space has been reserved exclusively for seniors and their families. Due to rain expected on Friday, June 5, the commencement is currently planned for Monday, June 8.
