BURRILLVILLE – A 36-year-old North Scituate man is facing felony intent to distribute charges, along with reckless driving, following an incident that reportedly began when police spotted him drag-racing on Broncos Highway.
Daryl Henault was arrested by Burrillville Police on Friday, July 31 in the middle of a construction site off the road, which he told police he was using as a short cut to get home.
According to reports, the incident began around 5 p.m. that Friday, when an officer spotted two pickup trucks driving aggressively along the highway and traveling at up to 88 miles an hour, along a 45 mile-per-hour stretch of road in the area of Daniele Drive. Only one of the trucks pulled over when police attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The second truck, a red Toyota Tundra driven by Henault, reportedly continued driving, before “wildly turning right,” into an active residential construction site.
According to reports, the lot was covered with mounds of fill, scattered construction equipment and machinery, and the operator, “became disoriented,” finally coming to an abrupt stop and, “flinging his hands up, presumably in irritation at his poor decision making.”
Approaching the truck, Sgt. Ryan Hughes reports detecting an “overwhelming,” smell of marijuana. Henault told Hughes he was taking a shortcut home through the site, but was reportedly unable to point to an exit.
Hughes reportedly noticed stray bits of marijuana between the driver’s seat and the door as Henault was exiting the truck.
Police searched the vehicle and located wads of cash, a clear bottle containing an unknown green fluid, gun oil and a piece of wax paper holding dabs, or high potency marijuana.
In the covered bed of the pickup, officers also found a black trash bag filled with “numerous large clear freezer bags,” filled with marijuana.
The report notes that Henault made a phone call to secure bail money, asking the party who answered to grab $1,000 from his sock drawer.
Henault was arraigned on three counts of possession with intent to deliver, maintaining a common narcotics nuisance and reckless operating/drag racing. He is also facing civil charges of aggressive driving, speeding and other traffic offenses.
