Mail ballot deadline

The deadline to submit an application to receive a mail ballot in Tuesday, Aug. 18. If you don’t want to vote in person this year, the town of Burrillville notes that you may also cast your vote securely by mail. Complete a mail ballot application on the Secretary of State’s website here, print it, sign it and return it to the Burrillville Board of Canvassers by 4 p.m. on Tuesday to receive your ballot in the mail.

The emergency ballot period begins Wednesday, Aug. 19 and will run through Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. During the emergency mail ballot period, you may complete an application for an emergency mail ballot Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 103 Harrisville Main St. Voters are asked to use the Town Hall parking lot.

Patriots cancelled

The Burrillville Patriots Youth Football & Cheer announced cancellation of the 2020 season this week over concerns about COVID-19. The league was scheduled to hold their first night of practice this week. Refunds for the 2020 registration, minus the credit card processing fee, are scheduled to be sent out this week according to organizers.

Ben’s Lemonade

Mapleville resident Ben St. Pierre will hold his 11th annual lemonade stand on Saturday, Aug. 22, an event to benefit the Burrillville Animal Shelter.  The fundraiser will be held at 90 Maureen Circle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 100 percent of proceeds donated to the shelter. Guidelines for social distancing and mask wearing will be observed, and guests are asked not to linger as to limit the gathering of crowds.

The event has raised more than $9,000 for the facility over the past decade.

Food trucks rescheduled

The Assembly of Food Trucks, the first event in Burrillville to be put on by PVD Food Trucks in 2020, was canceled on Sunday, Aug. 16 due to inclement weather. Organizers have announced that the new date for the event will be Sunday, Aug. 30 from 5-8 p.m.

Town meetings

The Pascoag Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners will hold a meeting on Monday, Aug. 17 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.

The Burrillville Ordinance Subcommittee will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18 starting at 4 p.m. Residents can attend via Zoom with an agenda and instructions found here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18 starting at 5:30 p.m. to consider and act on a motion to amend the town’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The board passed a budget in May, but had hoped to wait for the state budget to be passed to finalize the plan. The agenda and instructions to attend are here.

The Oakland Mapleville Fire District Operating Committee will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 19 starting at 7 p.m. with an agenda found here.
