Referees wanted

The Burrillville/Glocester Youth Soccer Association is seeking experienced referees ages 13 and older to help with the upcoming season. Those interested should reach out to the BGYSA referee director at [email protected]

Ben helps the animals

The family of Mapleville resident Ben St. Pierre has announced that his annual lemonade stand, held on Saturday, Aug. 22, exceeded expectations, raising $4,162 for the Burrillville Animal Shelter. It is the 11th consecutive year that the young man puts on the charity event.

“He knew going in that things might be different this year, but he never gave up on his goal,” noted a post following the event on social media. “He wanted to make more than last year. And he did.”

The family thanked the community this week, including those who donated funds as well as raffle items.

Blackstone Culinaria

Joan Loos, hostess of Culinaria Live!, will be talking with John and Rhonda Hanaway, owners of Johnny’s Victory Diner on an episode to be posted on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The owners of the Burrillville-based diner will be showing how they make several of their dishes including Pulled Chicken Egg Rolls with Smoked Onion Dipping Sauce and the BBQ Bronco Bowl.

This weekend 

The Burrillville Farmer’s Market continues this Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market accepts SNAP benefits, WIC, credit/debits along with cash.

The Assembly of Food Trucks, an event by PVD Food Trucks that was cancelled due to inclement weather on Sunday, Aug. 16, was rescheduled for this weekend. The event will include live entertainment, beer and a variety of trucks both on the grounds of the Assembly Theatre and Stillwater Mill Pavilion on Sunday, Aug. 30 from 5-8 p.m. Social distancing and face masks are required.

Town meetings

The Harrisville Fire District Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 24 starting at 7 p.m. – an extension to the district’s annual meeting, which took place last month. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25 starting at 6 p.m. for an agenda that includes a vote on Supt. Michael Sollitto’s recommendation to offer distance only learning through January 2021. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.

The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.

The Nasonville Fire District Board of Commissioners will hold a budget workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 25 starting at 7 p.m. at 2755 Victory Highway. The agenda can be found here.
