BURRILLVILLE – National Child Passenger Safety Month is September every year across the country, and Burrillville-based artist Jim Weicherding’s “Buckleupallofus,” is celebrating by reminding kids to buckle up.
Buckleupallofus is an award-winning and nationally recognized child passenger safety cartoon character created by Weicherding.
“Bucky,” as the kids who cannot pronounce “Buckleupallofus” call him, has been in the forefront of educational and awareness community events, classic car shows, cruise nights and grade school showcases over the past two decades. Most of the venues are charity fundraiser car shows and community events, where Weicherding delivers tens of thousands of handouts reminding kids and families about the importance of using properly installed car seats and booster seats, and wearing seatbelts, not only here in Rhode Island but across America.
Weicherding helps to raise thousands every year for charitable causes by showcasing his giant Bucky balloon free of any charge to hosts who invite him to attend their venues, where he passes out free Bucky safety materials.
This month, National Child Passenger Safety Week is September 20 through 26, and National Child Passenger Safety Car Seat Check Up Day is Saturday, Sept. 26.
“There will not be as many car seat check ups taking place this year due to the Coronavirus, but there still might be activities like this taking place in your own community,” Weicherding said, advising parents to watch for such events in newspapers and on social networks.
Readers are invited to print the below Buckleupallofus Child Passenger Safety Coloring Cartoons and reminded to discuss car safety with their kids.
