BURRILLVILLE – A 33-year-old Burrillville man has been charged with domestic assault and strangulation after a fight this month during which he allegedly attacked his 30-year-old girlfriend.

Ryan Bergeron, 33, of Burrillville was arrested following the incident on Sunday, Sept. 27.

According to reports, the victim, a 30-year-old woman from Cumberland, told police she was living with her three minor children at her boyfriend Bergeron’s Victory Highway home, and arrived to find him drinking with friends. The couple began to argue, and the victim and Bergeron’s sister exchanged words and began pushing each other, according to a statement given to police.

The victim said Bergeron then pushed her to the ground, held her down and began choking her – to the point where she saw black spots. She said she tried to scream but couldn’t breathe, and that Bergeron continued to hold her down until another man at the scene pulled him off.

Police documented several bruises, including red marks on the victim’s face, chest and neck area.

The victim told police that Bergeron was likely at his friend’s house on Inman Road and officers located him there, reporting that he was highly intoxicated.

A no contact order was filed and Bergeron is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on Monday, Dec. 7.
