NORTH SMITHFIELD – Steve Corriveau, candidate for North Smithfield Town Council, said this week that if elected, he plans to make helping the town’s small businesses a top priority.
Corriveau, who has lived with his family in town for more than eight years, notes that during that time he’s seen progress, with improvements to schools, a Town Hall relocation, the decommissioning of Halliwell and local road repair.
“However, with the exception of Dowling Village, I really haven’t seen much support for our local businesses,” Corriveau said. “To me, it appears to be fragmented.”
“Now don’t get me wrong,” Corriveau continued. “North Smithfield is a fantastic community like no other.”
Corriveau noted that since he announced his campaign for Town Council, he has made it a point to highlight local, small businesses in town.
“Since then there has been a tremendous uptick viewing and responsiveness creating a buzz in town,” said Corriveau.
Corriveau said that as a council member, this will be among his top priorities.
“I support the creation of a small business task force. The objective would be centered around existing and new entering small businesses acting to strengthen their presence within the surrounding communities.”
