NORTH SMITHFIELD – Early results from the town’s polling locations showed longtime Councilor Paul Zwolenski well ahead of his opponent, one term Councilor Douglas Osier in the race for town administrator.

And former Council President John Beauregard was the top voter-getter for the board among General Election day voters, followed by incumbent Councilor Claire O’Hara, returning Councilor Kimberly Alves, incumbent Paul Vadenais and newcomer Steve Corriveau respectively in the top five spots.

But with some 4,491 residents casting ballots in advance of the election, the race is not yet over. The early turnout more than doubled in-person election day results in North Smithfield leaving the final outcome far from clear.

Results from in-person early voting are schedule to begin being released by the state Board of Elections at 10 p.m., with mail ballots to follow starting at 11 p.m.

Zwolenski and Beauregard watched results come in among friends and supporters at Gator’s Pub Tuesday night, including School Committee Chairman James Lombardi.
