NORTH SMITHFIELD – A 38-year-old man from Cumberland is in serious but stable condition after being struck by a car Tuesday morning while trying to cross Route 146.

Adam Belhumeur was hit by a sedan traveling northbound in the high-speed lane, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Belhumeur was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver stopped immediately and did not show signs of impairment, according to police.

The accident took place in the area of Sayles Hill Road, and was one of three incidents that happened just after midnight Tuesday, creating a chaotic night for first responders.
