Digging out

Food pantry pickup

The pantry at the Slatersville Congregational Church is open exclusively to North Smithfield residents, and recipients must provide a photo ID and bill. It is currently operated as a drive through, and visitors are asked to line up on Greene Street and stay in their vehicles.

Food items sought this month through donations include canned meats and fruits, cereal and baked beans.

Questions should be directed to (401) 678-0356.

Brothers & Belles

The North Smithfield Heritage Association is seeking men to join their “Brothers of the Brush.” In honor of the town’s 150th anniversary, the group pledges not to shave for the entire year of 2021.

The group is scheduled to meet monthly, virtually at first, and in person when conditions allow.

According to the NSHA newsletter this month, fun and frivolity is mandatory and support for community events is optional.

Women, meanwhile, are invited to join the Centennial Belles for celebration of the special occasion. To learn more contact NSHA President Richard Keene at [email protected].

NSHA will also be holding its latest heritage hike this weekend, with exploration of the Harkness Conservation Area. Participants will meet at the Forestdale Schoolhouse at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.
