BURRILLVILLE – A new coloring poster series aims to show appreciation for state troopers, police officers, firefighters and other first responders, while also conveying important safety messages for families.

The first appreciation coloring posters include the traffic safety message, “Buckle up,” and the home fire safety message, “Have two ways out kids!”

Children are invited to color in the images to show their appreciation for individuals’ services and sacrifices to local communities.

The series, now in production, will continue to show gratitude for those who work hard and provide services throughout the state, featuring teachers and front line workers. They will be published on NRI NOW as they become available. The posters will also be distributed at area grocery stores, pizza parlors, diners and restaurants starting in March.

Parents are encouraged to print these coloring cartoons and remind kids to buckle up and stay home fire safe, while appreciating everything police officers, firefighters and first responders do in the state to help keep everyone safer.

Jim Weicherding is a Burrillville resident, and the founder and creator of an award-winning traffic safety effort Seasons of Safety. Weicherding contributes kids’ coloring cartoons, which can be printed and used to help parents discuss safety issues with their children. He has a long list of police officers and firefighters in his family and  has worked with law enforcement and firefighters in a creative public safety capacity for more than two decades.
