Virtual showcase

Burrillville High School will host a virtual showcase on Thursday, Feb. 25 starting at 5:30 p.m. featuring the school’s career and technical education programs. More information and links to attend will be posted on the Burrillville High School Broncos Facebook page this week.

Speaking of the high school, the BHS Class of 2023 hopes to raise money this week with a fundraiser at the Taco Shop. On Friday, Feb. 26 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., a percentage of all sales to go to the sophomore class.

Library hours

Jesse Smith Memorial Library recently began holding open browsing hours, with the facility open to visitors on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Mondays and Wednesdays remain by appointment only and Wednesdays are reserved exclusively for contactless curbside pickup.

The library has also announced that Ancestry access from home has been extended until the end of March. The virtual community winter reading challenge, Burrillville Reads, meanwhile, ends this week and participants must log their reading minute by Saturday, Feb. 27.

Early voting

It is the final week for early voting for those who hope to weigh in on statewide bonding questions. Voters who hope to avoid lines can visit the American Legion Hall at 103 Harrisville Main St. during regular Town Hall hours Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to election day on Tuesday, March 2.

For those who need to turn in a mail ballot, there is a drop box available at the side door. 

Petition

There is a online petition to save Zambarano Hospital following questions this week regarding the state’s plans for the facility, which provides long-term acute post-acute hospital-level care to patients with complex needs.

 “Zam(barano) is the last safety net for our state’s most vulnerable,” notes the petition, found here.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a special meeting for consideration and action on the 2021 legislative agenda with state officials on Monday, Feb. 22 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and link to attend are here.

The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency will hold their annual meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m., with a regular meeting at 7:15 p.m. An agenda and link to attend virtually are here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold their regular meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 24 starting at 7 p.m., with an agenda and link to attend via Zoom found here

The Burrillville Budget Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 25 starting at 6:30 p.m. An agenda and link to attend are here.
