Boys basketball
Congratulations to the Burrillville High School boys basketball team on a great season that came to an end over the weekend.
The Broncos made it to the final four, taking on Wheeler last week in a game ending 51-48 with BHS on top. The season ended with a state championship game on Saturday, March 6, with a 36-51 loss to Portsmouth.
Jeep group to host shelter supply drive Sunday
Jeep Life of the Northeast will hold a donation drive for the Burrilliville Animal Shelter on Sunday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The event will take place at the shelter at 131 Clear River Drive.
Items needed at the shelter include paper towels; tall kitchen bags; Pedigree brand canned dog food; Friskies Pate-style canned cat food; soft/chewy dog treats; dry Purina Kitten chow; Fancy Feast canned kitten food; Fancy Feast canned cat food; Sheba wet cat food; newspaper; DentaStix; Pet wipes; 33-gallon trash bags and 55-gallon heavy duty contractor bags.
All are welcomed to stop by the event and drop off a donation.
Found dog
Burrillville Police are seeking information regarding a female Yorkie found in a crate at the edge of the woods on Victory Highway near the Glocester line on Wednesday, March 3. The dog, which was found by a resident, has no collar or microchip.
Anyone who knows who owned the dog, saw anything, or has any information is asked to call (401) 568-9480.
Burrillville Animal Control officials noted that by law, they are not able to pursue potential adopters for the pet at this time, and they are not keeping a list.
Sports signups
Registration continues this week for the 2021 spring season of Burrillville Girls Softball. Divisions in the league, which was started last year, include 6 & 8U instructional, 10U, 12U and 14U.
The deadline to register for the league is Wednesday, March 31.
