BURRILLVILLE – Heavy winds from a storm late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning took down a large tree on Mowry Street, knocking out power to all of the roughly 4,900 customers with the Pascoag Utility District.

According to PUD General Manager Michael KIrkwood, the tree took down lines connecting the Pascoag system to National Grid.

“Those feeder lines are critical,” Kirkwood said.

Power went out to all homes on the PUD system around 5 a.m. and was restored in about an hour and 15 minutes, according to Kirkwood.

“We were really happy that National Grid jumped right on it the way they did,” he said.

The outage led to a two hour delay at Burrillville schools Thursday morning, and cancellation of morning pre-kindergarten. It was fully restored by 6:30 a.m.

Anyone on the PUD system that is still without power should call the district office at (401) 568-6222.
