Parade pics

North Smithfield’s annual Memorial Day Parade was cancelled on Monday, May 31, but a ceremony remembering the fallen will still take place at Memorial Town Hall at 1 Main St. starting at 11 a.m.

Speaking of the parade, the town Arts Committee is gathering photos from past events for a fun project. Those willing to share their photos are asked email parade pictures to [email protected].

And for those nostalgic for the event, which was also cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, director Christian de Rezendes has shared a montage of parades captured between 1937 and 2015 from his docu-series Slatersville, which can be viewed here.

Open House

The North Smithfield Heritage Committee will host their Open House for Heritage Hall and Memorial Town Hall this week, with a two day event allowing locals to tour the facilities. The event will take place on Friday, June 4 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will also include the unveiling of new merchandise for purchase.

Senior Parade

The North Smithfield High School Class of 2021 will hold a parade through town on Saturday, June 5 starting at 9:45 a.m., in keeping with a tradition started due to pandemic-related restrictions last year.

The seniors will then travel left onto Grange Road, left onto Providence Pike and left into North Smithfield Elementary School. The parade route will then return to Providence Pike and will follow the loop around the parking lot at the middle school before ending at the high school.

Residents are invited to show their support for the senior class with posters and balloons, or just wave to the group as they pass.
