WOONSOCKET – Boobification Healing With Ink, a Rhode Island nonprofit, is inviting the northern Rhode Island community to a family-friendly Mental Health Day with demonstrations, food trucks, hair and makeup sessions, music, kids’ activities and more.

The event will be held Sunday Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post at 870 River St. in Woonsocket.

Founded in 2015, Boobification HWI helps breast cancer survivors cover their scars and heal their minds through the art of tattoo.

But organizers note that the event will not be just for breast cancer survivors. The Mental Health Day, a free event with participation by dozens of local vendors and services, is a way for Boobification HWI to give back to the community.

The family friendly day will have something special for breast cancer survivors, with brief hair and makeup sessions, a photo from a professional photographer on site, massage, and reiki – all given for free. The services will also be available to the general public for a small charge. There will be three professional photographers on site to provide photos for all guests who are interested.

The event will also feature food trucks, with Bugg’d Out Barbecue, Mickey G’s Clamshack and Alien Ice on site. There will be a DJ playing music, a large kids area with arts and crafts, and washable kids tattoos.

Local businesses will provide demonstrations throughout the day with kickboxing, karate, yoga, first aid and hula hoops, and a special, “resource center” will offer information for children, teens, medical, mental health and more. Vets Unite and Safeguard will have a representative speaking to veterans and a wellness area will be dedicated to blood pressure and pulse screenings.

Boobification HWI will also have a raffle table set up, as well as a few items up for auction, and the organization’s merchandise will be available for guests to purchase.

Every guest who attends this event will receive a small gift bag while supplies last.
