NORTH SMITHFIELD – A discount grocer that’s been closed for renovation in recent months will reopen next week with a new layout.
Aldi at Dowling Village was one of 1,300 store locations across the country to benefit from a $5 billion remodeling investment that company officials say is focused on simplicity and efficiency.
The store will welcome back shoppers on Thursday, August 12, at 9 a.m with changes said to include an expanded area for fresh foods, open ceilings and natural lighting, all built with environmentally friendly materials.
“We have invested in remodeling our stores to ensure the design and experience match the high quality of our products,” said Chris Daniels, South Windsor regional vice president for ALDI. “With the updated North Smithfield store, shoppers will notice a new look with more fresh and convenient items at the reliably low prices ALDI fans rave about.”
Opened in 2013, ALDI was one of the first stores to be built in the Dowling Village development. It has been closed for around a month for renovations, but appears to have continued delivery services throughout.
The store’s business model is intentionally designed to offer customers high-quality products at low prices, with smaller locations than similar retailers with the goal of easy navigation. The business reports that it maintains consistently low prices by working with the best partners to curate a selection of more than 90 percent exclusive brands, and ALDI offers guarantees that its products are as good as or better than national brands.
The retailer notes that 1 in 3 ALDI-exclusive products are award-winning, and that ALDI has held the title of Value Leader among U.S. grocery stores according to the Market Force Information U.S. Grocery Competitive Study for the past ten years.
The store has also aimed to increase its e-commerce presence. This year, ALDI plans to further expand curbside grocery pickup service to 500 additional stores, bringing the total number of curbside locations to more than 1,200. Customers are invited to visit shop.aldi.us to place an order.
ALDI has also been recognized as one of America’s Best Large Employers by Forbes six times in the past seven years. To learn more about working at ALDI and search job openings, go to careers.aldi.us.
A grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 at the ALDI at 11 Dowling Village Blvd. The store will be giving out eco-friendly bags and quarter keychains to shoppers to celebrate the renovation.
Upon reopening, the North Smithfield store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
