NORTH SMITHFIELD – Roger E. Menard, 68, of Black Plain Road, died Friday, Sept. 10 at Landmark Medical Center.

Menard was the husband of Diane (Caya) Menard, and the couple would have celebrated their forty-eighth anniversary in October.

Menard was the owner of Menard’s Electric retiring earlier this year, and was the electrical inspector for the town of North Smithfield for twenty-three years.

“He was a ray of sunshine when he walked into the office, and graced our town with his presence, and will be missed by all,” noted the town newsletter this week.

Menard served on the Manville Fire Department for fourteen years, retiring as captain, and was an honorary member of the Manville Firefighters’ Association. He enjoyed camping, especially in North Conway, N.H., Cape Cod, Mass. Old Orchard Beach, Maine and Lake George, N.Y., and was an avid New England Patriots fan.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Amy Gervais and her husband Peter, of Millville, Mass.; one son, Jeffrey Menard, and his wife Diane, of Dallas, Georgia; three brothers, Rene Menard of North Smithfield, Roland Menard of North Smithfield and Russell Menard of Manville; two sisters, Rachel Boiteau of North Smithfield and Rita Lussier of Halls, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Kendall Gervais and Michael Menard; one step granddaughter, Courtney Jeromin, and her husband Christopher; and two step great-grandchildren, Cooper and Caroline Jeromin.  He was the brother of the late Robert Menard.

His funeral was held on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Bellows Funeral Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6 Waltham, MA 02451, or the American Lung Association, 260 W. Exchange Street, Providence, R.I. 02903.
