Planned power outage
National Grid has announced that there will be a planned power outage for approximately six hours on Tuesday, Oct. 12 in order to make improvements to the electrical system. Residents on Black Plain Road, Chelsea Drive, Jennifer Lane, Courtney Drive, Laurel Lane, Tift Road and Charon Drive are expected to lose power from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. In the case of extreme weather above 90 or below 20 degrees or unexpected events in the system, the work will be performed at the same time the following day.
Questions can be directed to the company’s customer service department at (800) 322-3223.
Hydrant flushing
The North Smithfield Water Department has announced that hydrant flushing will take place in the Slatersville, Forestdale, Great Road, Mendon Road, and Industrial Park areas on Monday, Oct. 4, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some flushing may also occur overnight.
Flushing enhances the water quality for area residents and businesses, and department officials recommend limited use of water during the flushing operation. This includes using water to wash clothes and dishes. Residents should check their water before use and run the cold water until it clears if it is discolored.
Daffodils
The daffodils have come in for an effort by the North Smithfield Heritage Association and local gardener Ann Lilley to paint the town yellow. Dutchmaster yellow daffodils – a perennial flower – are being sold at a cost of $30 for a 100 count bag. The group is also accepting donations for the effort to plant the flowers in public spaces.
To order your daffodil bulbs or learn more, contact Lilley at (401) 556-0853 or [email protected].
