Out with the old: The renovation of the turf field at the North Smithfield High School Athletic Fields is now underway. On Friday, pieces of the old field were carted off and the new turf was brought in.

Public hearing

The North Smithfield Town Council is notifying residents that there will be a public hearing regarding the renovation or improvement of the police station at a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Greene St. Tecton Architects will be available to answer questions.

Veteran’s Day

Town Hall offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 11 to observe Veterans Day, and trash and recycling will not be collected, and delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

VFW Post 6342 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.at Scouters Hall at 32 North Main St. All are invited to attend.

Town seeks volunteers

The town of North Smithfield is seeking volunteer members to serve on several boards and commissions including the Asset Management Commission; the Board of Canvassers; the Budget Committee; the Economic Development Commission; the Historic District Commission and many more.

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact Town Clerk Joanne Buttie at (401) 767-2200 ext. 504 or [email protected] or download an application at nsmithfieldri.org and submit it to Town Hall at 83 Greene St. View the full list of openings here.

The deadline to submit applications is Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Holiday Open House

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold a holiday open house at the Little Red Schoolhouse at 190 School St. on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Give the gift of history with a variety of items available to please history buffs including 150th commemorative town ornaments; 2022 historical calendars; North Smithfield quilts; 19th Century town maps; “Images of NS,” books; Schoolhouse tea towels; scenic North Smithfield puzzles; Pickets of Memories plaques; white elephant items and more.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Greene St. The agenda can be found here.
