Pantry dates

The North Smithfield Food Pantry will hold its final pickup date for the month on Tuesday, Nov. 30, and has announced that pick up dates will be held Saturday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays, Dec. 21 and 28 at 5:30 p.m. The pantry at Slatersville Congregational Church serves North Smithfield residents and photo ID is required. Visitors are asked to stay in their vehicles and wear masks during pick up.

For the month of December, the pantry is asking for canned pasta, dry pasta and pasta sauce.

Open house

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will open its gift shop at the Forestdale Schoolhouse at 190 School St. on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 5-8 p.m. Visitors may purchase puzzles, ornaments, and calendars as well as many other items that highlight the town’s heritage.   

Visitors can subscribe to the popular monthly NSHA Newsletter as well as become members. All proceeds benefit local historic preservation activities.

Tree lighting

The North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor the town’s annual holiday event on Sunday, Dec. 5 with a tree lighting, caroling, music & crafts, cookies, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.

The event will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall gazebo at 83 Greene St., and all are invited to attend.

Early bird registration

North Smithfield Little League is now accepting early bird registration for spring, which costs $60 through Monday, Dec. 15 . The league is dedicated to teaching boys and girls ages 5-14 the basic rules, skills and sportsmanship of baseball and softball appropriate to their ages and skill set so they can take them to middle school and beyond, NSLL is 100 percent volunteer-based and always looking for more volunteers to help the children grow.   

The spring league is for players who will be league age 5-14 in 2022. NSLL will be offering T-Ball and instructional Pitch League for ages 5-7-years-old within the softball and baseball divisions. This program is for beginners looking to gain experience and build skills in a fun environment. Ages 8-14 softball and baseball players will play in U8/Minors Division through the Juniors Division.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Historic District Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, Nov. 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Hall at 101 Greene St. The agenda can be found here.

The Municipal Buildings Review Task Force will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 1 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the North Smithfield Police Station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda can be found here.

The Halliwell Review Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, Dec. 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Greene St. The agenda can be found here.
