BURRILLVILLE/NORTH SMITHFIELD – A downed transmission line connecting National Grid to the Pascoag Utility District left hundreds of northern Rhode Island residents without power for roughly an hour and a half on Saturday, Dec. 18.
The incident appeared to leave all PUD electric customers in the dark, along with hundreds of National Grid customers in neighboring North Smithfield through the Slatersville area.
It was the second outage in the two-town area in less than a week. Homes experienced outages for around two hours in the early morning hours on Thursday, Dec. 16 due to an issue PUD officials said was also caused by National Grid’s feeder lines.
On Saturday, power began blinking on and off in North Smithfield at around 4:45 p.m.and was restored around 6:20 p.m.
“The transmission line between National Grid’s substation and Pascoag’s sub station is down,” noted PUD officials. “PUD is working in coordination with National Grid to restore power. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
Anyone still without power in the PUD service area should call the office at (401) 568-6222.
