NORTH SMITHFIELD – A delivery truck stolen in Providence was finally stopped on Route 146 in North Smithfield on Thursday, Dec. 23 after miles of travel with the driver in back signaling for help.
Bruce Archambault, 43, of Cranston, is facing larceny and stolen vehicle charges after the Rhode Island State Police apprehended him on the busy highway.
According to reports, the Penske truck driver was delivering packages on Westminster Street around 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon when he saw Archambault stealing the vehicle, and jumped into the back. He signaled to other drivers while hanging out the open back door as it sped along the highway.
The truck traveled along Interstate 95 north before heading up Route 146. The delivery driver was not injured in the incident.
Archambault, who also has a warrant out of Woonsocket for possession of a controlled substance according to the state criminal database, is reportedly due back in court on Friday. `
