BURRILLVILLE – A driver – who police say they suspect was unfamiliar with the area – was arrested this week after dodging through an intersection and landing in the front yard of a Nasonville home.
Danny Xayvongsa, 32, of Cranston, was charged with felony assault, DUI – blood alcohol unknown, reckless driving, resisting arrest, property damage and refusal to submit to a chemical test following a crash on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
According to Burrillville Police Major Albert Carlow, the incident began when Xayvongsa was traveling into town from North Smithfield on Route 7 around 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
“He got into some type of road rage incident with the vehicle in front of him where he was the aggressor,” Carlow said.
Xayvongsa reportedly struck the vehicle in front of him before approaching the intersection in front of Western Hotel & Pizza. There, Carlow said, Xayvongsa drove around traffic and straight into the yard of a neighboring home.
“He must not have been familiar with the area to know he had to make a turn,” Carlow said.
The driver hit the homeowner’s car, parked in the driveway, and his vehicle became wedged between that car and the house.
When police arrived, Xayvongsa reportedly refused to cooperate, and would not exit his vehicle.
“He had to be forcefully removed,” Carlow said.
Xayvongsa refused sobriety tests and was transported to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. He was held overnight and has an arraignment scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Carlow said that fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
