Kindergarten registration
The Glocester School Department will hold registration for kindergarten in the 2022/2023 school year at Glocester Town Hall room 9 on Tuesday, March 15, with sessions between 9 and 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 and 3 p.m.; and 4 and 6 p.m. To register, parents must bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residence and the parent or guardian’s license.
All children who will be five years old on or before September 1 should be registered.
Chieftain champions
Congratulations to the Ponaganset High School girls basketball team on their win Sunday, March 13 of the RIIL State Tournament with a victory came over Juanita Sanchez. Sunday’s state final marked the Division I team’s first title since 2001.
It was one of two big wins for the Chieftains over the weekend. The competitive cheerleading team was named the Division 3 state champions on Saturday, March 12 at the RIIL’s championship at Providence Career & Technical Academy.
Rescued by Ruby
This week, Netflix releases Rescued by Ruby, the story of K-9 Ruby and her 2017 rescue of a missing Glocester teenager. The story of the unwanted 11-year-old shelter dog turned national hero premieres on the streaming service on Thursday, March 17.
Weekend fire
The Chepachet Fire Department responded on Saturday to a structure fire at a home on Lake View Circle, part of a busy weekend for the volunteer group that also included box alarms, auto accidents and medical emergencies. The Department thanked West Glocester and Harmony for assistance.
The district’s executive board will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 16 at 6 p.m. at 1170 Putnam Pike.
Town meetings
The Foster-Glocester Regional School District will hold its 64th annual financial meeting in the Ponaganset High Auditorium at 137 Anan Wade Road on Tuesday, March 15 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda can be found here.
