Parade deadline, volunteers needed

Still considering being part of the town’s 150th anniversary parade? It’s time to let parade organizers know! The group notified potential participants that the deadline to join the event, set to include marching units, floats and more, is Friday, April 15. Groups should contact [email protected].

The parade committee is also seeking volunteers to help ensure the event, set to take place on Saturday, May 7 starting at 10 a.m., runs smoothly. Those interested should email [email protected].

Scam alert

The North Smithfield Police Department is warning residents that there is a scam email going around claiming to be from the police department and citing people for traffic violations. The department noted that they do not email traffic citations and residents should not give any payment to the sender. Anyone who may have been a victim of fraud should visit the police station to file a report.

Summer Hoops

Registration for the 2022 Northmen Hoops program is open now with a deadline of Sunday, May 22, for a league to begin during school summer vacation. Play is during the week, Monday through Friday from the hours of 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The league is also in need of volunteers/coaches, and there are no practices for the summer program, so participation requires only one hour per week. Parents are asked to sign up during the registration process.

Registration can be found here.

The North Smithfield Food Pantry is in need of canned soup, tuna and beans for the month of April. Pickup dates for North Smithfield residents in need of food are Tuesdays, April 19 and 26 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays, April 23 and 30 at 10 a.m.
