Spring Vendor Fair, Pops Concert & Eco-Depot: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Village Common info meeting

The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to help expand senior services in town through their partnership with the Village Common of Rhode Island. Roles that need to be filled include Steering Committee members, membership ambassador, volunteer coordinator, events planner and more. Pops Concert

The Burrillville High School Music Department will perform the annual Spring Pops Concert on Tuesday, May 17 starting at 6:30 p.m in the high school auditorium. Highlights of the choral selections will be a “doo-whop” arrangement, an Irish melody and an inspirational piece that is particularly appropriate for graduation time, according to school administrators. Highlights of the band selections will be a piece that is performed in the dark, a medley of tunes from “Hamilton,” a piece featuring the members of the concert band partnered with members of the wind ensemble, and a medley of tunes from all the Armed Forces.

A selection of drawings, paintings, prints, and ceramic pieces created this past semester by art students will also be on display outside the auditorium Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m.

Eco-Depot

The town of Burrillville will hold a Eco-Depot Hazardous Waste collection event on Saturday, May 21 rain or shine at the Public Works building at 200 Clear River Drive from 8 a.m. to noon. Items accepted include household hazardous waste such as chemicals and paints. Appointments are required by calling Rhode Island Resource Recovery at (401) 942-1430 ext. 3241.

Vendor Fair

First Universalist Church at 134 Harrisville Main St. will hold a Spring Vendor Fair on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Shop with local crafters and vendors or visit a “Thrift Shop Sale” inside the church with all items priced at less than $5.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 17 starting at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 17 building at 103 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a public hearing on the budget on Thursday, May 19 starting at 7 p.m. at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda and a link to this year’s budget documents can be found here.
