Candidate deadline

The deadline for declaring candidacy for political office in Rhode Island is Wednesday, June 29. Forms can be downloaded here, printed and submitted at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St.

In Burrillville, there are four Town Council seats and five School Committee seats up for election this year, including a two-year seat to complete the unexpired term previously held by Dot Cardon, who resigned last year.

Democratic Committee hosts Gorbea, Pryor

The Burrillville Town Democratic Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 28 at Jesse Smith Memorial Library from 6 to 7:45 p.m. State Treasurer and candidate for Rhode Island Governor Nellie Gorbea will be there, as well as Commerce Secretary and candidate for Rhode Island State Treasurer Stefan Pryor.

Public invited to comment on BPD accreditation

The Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission will visit the Burrillville Police Department on Thursday, June 30 to examine the agency’s policies and procedures, and in hopes to ensure all meet the standard for professional excellence in law enforcement.

Agency employees and members of the community are invited to to offer comments to the assessment team by phone on June 30 between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. at (401) 440-4352. Telephone comments are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with RIPAC standards. A copy of the standards are available for review at BPD headquarters.

Summer of Learning

The Burrillville School Department is inviting parent of students who will be attending preschool or kindergarten in the upcoming year to a summer program on school readiness skills. Parents will learn what is expected of students entering school, from social emotional learning, to mathematics academic standards, and how to help their child become a successful student.

Sessions will be held at Austin T. Levy School rooms 17 and 18 on Mondays from July 11 to August 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Those who are interested or who have additional questions are asked to contact Ms. Rotundo at [email protected].

Town meetings

The Pascoag Utility District Board of Commissioners will hold a meeting on Monday, June 27 starting at 2 p.m. at 253 Pascoag Main St. The agenda can be found here.
