NORTH SMITHFIELD – A city man broke into a home on Black Plain Road through a basement window last week, and was found hiding under the deck before fleeing the scene, according to the victims.

Wayne Hadley, 60, of Woonsocket, was eventually found and arrested by police, and charged with breaking and entering into an occupied dwelling of a person over the age of 60 and vandalism.

According to reports, the homeowners called police for a breaking and entering in progress on Tuesday, July 5. They told officers they were alerted by their security system when an intruder entered the house through their basement window. The victims said they spotted a man hiding under their deck, but he ran off as they called for help.

Officers were reportedly notified of a second security alarm going off at another nearby residence as they were investigating the incident, but were unable to locate a suspect.

Police identified Hadley with the help of surveillance footage. He was arrested on Saturday, July 9, arraigned on Monday and released on a $5,000 surety bond.

Hadley has a pre-arraignment conference scheduled for October 3.
