Open house

NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley will host open house events on Wednesday, June 20 starting at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 23 starting at 10 a.m. at 200 George Eddy Road in Pascoag to showcase affordable housing for potential future homeowners. Guests are invited to check out the site, meet current homeowners, tour the neighborhood, and complete an application to join the neighborhood.

The NWBRV program offers families the opportunity to literally build their way to homeownership. Over the course of a year, eight families work together to build three bedroom, two bathroom homes on 1/3 of an acre of land in Burrillville. Homeowners choose their home design, colors, and finishes.   

Applicants must income qualify, have a strong credit score, have consistent monthly income, the ability to work 30-35 hour a week on site per family under the guidance of a construction supervisor, and have a good cooperative attitude. Qualification information can be found here.

Grab & Go

Starting on Monday, July 18, the Rhode Island Summer Meals program has announced that kids picking up a free lunch no longer need to eat the food on site. The program offers free summer meals to teens and kids on weekdays through August. Meals are served from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. 

Skate park petition

Resident Jordan Roy has started a petition to get a new skate park built in Burrillville, which currently has more than 200 supporters. Roy notes that ramps at the 15-year-old park are rusted and starting to stick out of the ground. His petition to rebuild and change the park can be found here.

All About Amy

The Riverwalk Concert Series continues on Saturday, July 23 with a free concert at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion with All About Amy. Residents are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets, and enjoy free entertainment, with the Dinolicious food truck also on site. The concerts starting at 6 p.m. and are moved inside the library in inclement weather.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 19 starting at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post #17 at 103 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, July 20 starting at 6 p.m. at the Burrillville Town Building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda – which will be held in executive session – can be found here. At 7 p.m., the board will hold a regular public meeting at the same location for an agenda found here.

The Nasonville Water District will hold an annual meeting on Wednesday, July 20 starting at 7 p.m. at the fire station at 2577 Victory Highway. The commission is looking for new members, and residents are urged to attend and vote. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Thursday, July 21 starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Town Building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Planning Board Senior Housing Exploratory Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, July 21 starting at 5 p.m. at the Town Annex at 144 Harrisville Main St. for an agenda found here.
