Police release name of Woonsocket man who drowned in Slatersville Reservoir Wednesday

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Police have identified the man who drowned in the Slatersville Reservoir Wednesday night after failing to emerge from the water following a jump from the railroad trestle.

Ivandal Frederique, 18, of Woonsocket, was found deceased after rescue crews searched the area following reports of a missing swimmer.

According to a release from the North Smithfield Police Department, officers responded a location off of Route 102 at approximately 6:11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20.

“The fire department immediately deployed water apparatus to attempt to locate the missing swimmer,” noted Police Chief Tim Lafferty. “Several surface dives were unsuccessful.”

Dive teams from Smithfield and Cumberland also arrived on scene and just after 7 p.m., the body of the missing swimmer was located, deceased, according to Lafferty.

The area, located just by the town line between North Smithfield and Burrillville, has been a frequent scene for accidents over the years, including swimmer fatalities.
