Craft fair, Juice Box Challenge: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Members of the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee held a voter information event on Saturday along Harrisville Main St. answering questions about the upcoming September primary. The deadline to register to vote in the primary is August 14.

Victory Day

Town offices will be closed on Monday, August 8 in observance of Victory Day, and there will be no trash or recycling pickup. Pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Any questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works Refuse & Recycling division at (401) 568-4440 ext. 12.

Juice box drive

Stop by Johnny’s Victory Diner this week to contribute to Plates With Purpose’s Juice Box Challenge and donate water or juice in the collection bin. The organization hopes to collect 2,000 juice and water bottles to be included in meal deliveries for students during the 2022/2023 school year.

Concert & market

The Burrillville Farmer’s Market continues this Saturday, August 13 to visit with local vendors and organizations, catch entertainment and enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides with Liberty Farm. The market takes place weekly from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Saturday, Sept 24 at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion.

Return to the pavilion Saturday evening for a free concert with The Live Music Band, the latest act in the Riverwalk Times Concert series. The concert will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. with food by La Carreta Authentic Mexican. Concerts are moved inside the library in inclement weather.

Craft Fair

Willow Grove Farm at 475 Whipple Road Pascoag will host a craft fair on Saturday, August 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents are invited to visit the farm and check out tables from local vendors.

Town meetings

The Pascoag Fire District will hold a meeting on Monday, August 8 starting at 7 p.m. at the station at 141 Howard Ave. for an agenda found here.

The Burrillville Personnel Board will hold a meeting Tuesday, August 9 starting at 8:30 a.m. at Town Hall at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting Tuesday, August 9 starting at 10 a.m. at 105 Harrisville Main St. for an agenda found here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold a meeting Tuesday, August 9 starting at 6 p.m. in the Burrillville High School media center at 425 East Ave. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will hold a meeting Tuesday, August 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the DPW offices at 200 Clear River Drive. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Sewer Commission will hold a meeting Tuesday, August 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 141 Clear River Drive. The agenda is here.

There will be no hearing of the Burrillville Zoning Board of Review for the month of August.

Bruce Powers, a Burrillville resident and civics teacher who helped organize the voter information event Saturday said, “It is so important that people be able to participate in our democracy.
