Tax sale
The town has published notice of the intent to sell at auction liens on several properties where taxes are significantly past due.
The sale will take place at the pavilion at Kent Field at 1111 Putnam Pike Chepachet on Thursday, August 11 at 10 a.m. A list of the properties and the complete notice from the town can be found here.
Backpack drive
Century 21 Limitless at 1160 Putnam Pike Chepachet is holding a drive for school supplies for kids in advance of the start of the new school year. The business is collecting pens; pencils; 24-packs of crayons; one and three subject spiral notebooks; highlighters; index cards; erasers; glue sticks; pencil boxes; kids’ scissors; water bottles; Kleenex; hand sanitizer; colored markers; folders and individually wrapped snack packages.
Drop off times for donations at the Chepachet office are Wednesdays August 10 and 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays August 13 and 20, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The back packs will be made available for pickup behind the Glocester Senior Center.
Declaration period
Town Clerk Jean Fecteau is notifying residents that any qualified registered voter of the town of Glocester who wants to be a candidate for the non-partisan Glocester School Committee may declare their intent to run and receive nomination papers for signatures at the Town Clerk’s office beginning Wednesday, Aug. 10.
Nomination Papers, with sufficient signatures will need to be returned by Friday, Sept. 9 by 4 p.m.
Lughnasadh
Dragonfly Apothecary at 15 Money Hill Road will hold a Lughnasadh or “first harvest” celebration on Saturday, August 13, featuring tarot readers, local vendors artisans and more. The event is Gaelic in origin and celebrates the beginning of the harvest season and the fruits of all the hard labor done during spring. Locals are invited to join in the celebration on the front lawn of the business.
Town meetings
The West Glocester Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 9 starting at 5:30 p.m. at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
The Glocester Land Trust will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 9 starting at 7 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall. The agenda can be found here.
There will be no meeting of the Glocester Conservation Commission this week.
