Car show, pantry dates & coaches needed: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Car show

After cancellation last week due to expected thunderstorms, The Beef Barn at 200 Industrial Drive has scheduled its first car show to be held Tuesday, August 16 starting at 5 p.m. on the business’s new back lawn. The car shows are expected to be held every Tuesday night going forward as weather-permits.

The final countdown to the premiere of a documentary series nearly a decade in the making, Breaking Branches Picture’s Slatersville, America’s First Mill Village has begun, with release of the official trailer for the first season to run on Rhode Island PBS. Summer concert

North Smithfield Parks & Recreation’s Summer Concert Series continues this week with The Friday Episode to play at the Town Hall gazebo at 83 Green St. starting at 5 p.m. A food truck is also expected to be on site.

Pantry seeks toothpaste

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pickup dates will begin this week with openings on Saturdays, August 20 and 27 at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays, August 23 and 30 at 5:30 p.m.

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents who must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms their address. Guests can attend the pantry all four times it is open per month at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common.

For the month of August, the pantry is seeking donations of toothpaste, shampoo and tissues.

NSYSA seeks sponsors, coaches

The North Smithfield Youth Soccer Association has sponsor opportunities available for an upcoming fundraiser golf outing to take place Sunday, Sept. 18. The cost is $150 for tee sponsors; $150 for green; $200 for longest drive and $200 for closest to pin. All sponsors will receive custom signage on the course.

The organization is also seeking raffle donations for their luncheon. Those interested in a hole sponsorship or donating to the raffle should contact NSYSA via their Facebook page.

The league is also still in search of coaches for U6, U8, and U10 teams.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, August 15 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the North Smithfield Middle School cafeteria. The agenda is here.
