BURRILLVILLE – In a release on Thursday, the Harrisville Fire Department invited the public to attend and participate in an annual memorial ceremony honoring the victims of the tragedy that took place on September 11, 2001.
This year’s ceremony will be held on Sunday Sept. 11 at Firefighter’s Memorial Park on Callahan School Street across from the Harrisville fire station, starting at 9 a.m.
“The names of the initial 343 firefighters who perished in the line of duty will be read to commemorate the anniversary of this most solemn day,” noted an announcement on the event.
Any Burrillville firefighter, firefighters who reside in Burrillville or town resident who would like to participate in the reading of the roll call, should contact Harrisville Fire Chief Michael Gingell by noon on Saturday, Sept. 10, at (401) 692-7267.
“Since this is truly a community-wide event, anyone wishing to participate is welcome,” the release noted.
All firefighters planning to participate or attend are asked to wear their Class A uniform, if available.
All attendees are asked to bring a chair to the ceremony.
