Arts Festival, nine town meetings, taco fundraiser & voting: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Members of the community took pause at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Firefighters Memorial Park, remembering and reading the names of the initial 343 New York Firefighters that died during the attack on the Twin Towers in New York. Members of the community took turns at the lectern reading the 343 names. Caroline Rhodes sang the Nation Anthem and those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance . The bell was tolled in remembrance for all that died in the tragedy.

Primary voting

Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 13 as Burrillville residents have the chance to participate in a statewide primary from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can find their polling location and view their sample ballots here 

There will be no primary this year for Burrillville’s Town Council and School Committee races, but voters in both political parties do have choices for statewide races.

Tacos for volleyball

The Burrillvillle Girls Volleyball team is holding a fundraiser at The Taco Shop at 459 Chapel St. on Friday, Sept. 16 from 3 to 8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from sales will benefit the team.

Basketball registration

Registration is now open for the Winter 2022-2023 Burrillville Youth Basketball Association session.  Families of interested boys and girls ages 5 and up as of Thursday, Sept. 1 are encouraged to register at www.byba.org. Registration closes on Sunday, Oct. 2.  

BYBA is in need of coaching volunteers. Interested coaches can sign up under Volunteer Opportunities at www.byba.org

Arts festival

The Burrillville Arts & Crafts Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, on the grounds of the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave., starting at 10 a.m. both days. The festival features more than 100 vendors, live entertainment, food, libations, a laser light show and more.

Town meetings

The Pascoag Fire District will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Sept. 12, starting at 7 p.m. at 141 Howard Ave. The budget to be voted on and agenda can be found here, and information for voters can be found here and on candidates who submitted information to NRI NOW here and here.

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will hold a regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 12 starting at 6:30 p.m. Gonyea Park on High Street or at the DPW office at 200 Clear River Drive in the case of inclement weather. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 starting at 6 p.m. in the Burrillville High School media center. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Sewer Commission will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Wastewater Facility at 141 Clear River Drive. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Zoning Board of Review will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda can be found here.

The Harrisville Fire District Board of Commissioners will hold a monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 starting at 7 p.m. at 115 Central St. The agenda is here.

The Nasonville Fire District will hold a monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 starting at 7 p.m. at 2577 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.
