Food drive, pop up farmer’s market: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

A Pascoag dog needs your help in a contest to become America’s Favorite Pet, with voting set to end this week.

Mr. Whiskey, an 8-year-old pup who just recently found his forever home, is competing for the chance to win his owner $5,000, and to be featured in Dogster magazine. He is currently in second place out of 20 dogs in his group in the online contest, which ends Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m..

To cast a free vote visit https://americasfavpet.com/2023/mr-8400. Voters can optionally sends a donation to PAWS.org on the site to help the organization in the mission to help sick, injured, and orphaned animals.

Farmer’s market

The Burrillville Farmer’s Market will host a pop up shop at Bravo Brewing Company at 75 Pascoag Main St. on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature live music by Jesse Desorcy along with items for sale including work by local artisans, fresh produce, meats, baked goods and more.

Food drive

The Steere Farm Elementary School PTA will hold a food drive to benefit the Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack program on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Beckwith Bruckshaw Lodge at 50 Lodge Road in Pascoag. The program – which provides food to residents in need – is seeking juice boxes, soups, pastas, pasta sauce, jelly, single-serve cereal boxes and oatmeal, pudding cups, microwave popcorn, mac and cheese, individual snack packages, canned meals and other non-perishables. No expired items, products containing nuts or glass packaging will be accepted.

Donations will also be accepted, with checks to be made out to the Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program.

Gr8t Race

Registration is now underway for the 8th annual Shannon Heil Memorial Gr8t Race, set to take place April 23 at Lincoln Woods. The event, which include 5K and 8K options, is held in memory of a Burrillville girl who died in a motor vehicle accident in 2013 at the age of 18. It will raise funds for scholarships and needs-based grants to individuals and groups, “whose work ethic, drive and determination align with the way Shannon lived her life.”

Town meetings

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a joint pre-budget meeting with the Burrillville School Committee and the Budget Board on Monday, Jan. 30 starting 6 p.m. in the Wallace Lees Safety Complex. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Affordable Housing Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 2 starting at 2 p.m. at the town annex at 144 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Budget Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.
