Northern, RI – The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for northern Rhode Island and the surrounding region on Tuesday, Feb. 28, noting that areas of black ice may develop this evening and into the overnight hours.
Lingering areas of light rain and snow are expected to come to an end in the region by mid-evening. NWS notes that while temperatures were above freezing through much of the afternoon, a drop is expected this evening.
“This combined with light winds will result in conditions favorable to the formation of black ice as the night wears along,” the statement notes.
NWS states that there may also be areas of dense ground fog, and motorists should be prepared, as roads that appear wet may actually be icy. Drivers are advised to use extra caution.
