A huge congratulations goes out this week to North Smithfield native, director Christian de Rezendes and his town-based business Breaking Branches Pictures for winning the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Boston/New England Chapter's EMMY in the Music Composition Category for Slatersville, America’s First Mill Village. The series was also nominated for best documentary, with the award ultimately going to NBC Connecticut's Just Yesterday: Sandy Hook Ten Years Later. Outdoor yoga

North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department will offer outdoor yoga on Mondays, June 12 and June 26 on the lawn next to Town Hall at 83 Green St. from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Participants should bring a towel, blanket or yoga mat. All are welcome and no experience is necessary.

Food, Friends & Politics

The North Smithfield Republican Town Committee will hold its monthly gathering on Thursday, June 15 with Food Friends & Politics at Tavern 6-Two-1 at 621 Pound Hill Road starting at 7 p.m. All are invited to join the group as they gather to discuss local state and town politics. RSVP here.

Ranger walkabout

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold the Ranger Walkabout: Swords, Scythes, and Slave Cloth in conjunction with the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park on Thursday, June 15 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Learn how workers in the Blackstone Valley were affected by the Civil War and explore the connections between the mill villages of Slatersville and Forestdale, and the American South. The 60 minute program will begin at 101 Green St. Participants are advised to wear comfortable footwear and bring water. Bug spray and sunscreen are also highly suggested.

Heritage dinner

On Saturday, June 17, the NSHA will host its annual Heritage Dinner at Village Haven Restaurant at 90 School St. The event will include a family-style chicken dinner starting at 6 p.m., followed by a comedy show with Father Patrick Aloysius Misgivings.

Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased here or at the Memorial Town Building. All proceeds will benefit the Forestdale School Restoration Project.

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, June 12 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
