North Smithfield Little League hosted a Family Fun Day to end the spring season over the weekend.

Road closure

The town is notifying residents that Canal Street, from St. Paul Street to Bridge Street, will be closed for several weeks beginning today, Monday, June 26. The road will be shut down for street and sidewalk improvements, and all travelers will have to seek an alternate route.

Questions can be directed to the Blackstone Department of Public Works at (508) 883-9331.

Summer Enrichment

The North Smithfield School District has announced several free summer enrichment opportunities open to North Smithfield students including greenhouse learning, financial literacy support, babysitting courses, arts programs and more.

Visit the North Smithfield Public Schools Facebook page to view a complete list or to learn more contact Dave Daignault at [email protected] or Christine Welch at [email protected].

At the Beef Barn

In addition to car shows every Tuesday evening starting at 4 p.m., the Beef Barn Restaurant is now offering outdoor yoga every Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Join the group at the pond behind the restaurant beginner and intermediate vinyasa flow. The drop in class costs $10 and participants should bring water and their own mat.

Sunday Fundays

Registration is now open for the North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department’s summer pickleball session, to be held at the North Smithfield High School tennis courts on Sundays, from July 16 to August 20, from 5-7 p.m. The cost for the six week session is $130 per person and all skill levels are welcomed. Register here.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, June 26 for an agenda to include adoption of a budget. The meeting will take place at Town Hall at 83 Green St. starting at 6:45 p.m. and is scheduled to continue Tuesday, June 27 starting at 6:45 p.m. if more time is needed. The agenda is here.

A bonus ‘thing’

As a bonus this week, we offer a reminder that Scouts BSA Troop 438 is collecting gently used clothing, household items, and boxes of books in a fundraising drive to support a white water rafting trip. A community collection day will be held on Tuesday, June 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Scouter’s Hall by Pacheco Park at 11 Main St.
