Bond vote, VFW ceremony: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Vote

Cast your vote for or against an $18 million bond to build a new police station during the Special Election on Tuesday, Nov. 7 – if you haven’t already. North Smithfield residents can weigh in on the bond question, as well as the Congressional District 1 race. Voters can view a sample ballot and confirm their polling place here, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

If you would prefer to vote today, Monday, Nov. 6, an early vote can be cast at Town Hall at 83 Green St. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Votes will be cast in the town council chambers and all casting a ballot must bring a valid photo ID.

Pantry needs soup

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pick-up dates will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18 10 a.m. and Tuesdays, Nov. 21 and Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents and you must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your address. It is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common. For questions call (401) 678-0356

For the month of November, the pantry is seeking donations of beans, tuna and soup.

Beauté joins Audubon board

North Smithfield resident Stephanie Beauté has been named to the board of directors of the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, according to a release from the organization.

Beauté earned a Master of Science degree in information systems from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from the University of Rhode Island. The organization noted that she has extensive experience as a senior program manager in the field of technology. As a senior IT professional, Beauté has led diverse teams and generated substantial value for global enterprises such as GE and start-ups, the release stated.

Veterans Day

Town Hall will be closing at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 and will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10 in observation of Veterans Day.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, LeClair Kozlik Logan Bassett VFW Post 6342 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony starting at 11 a.m. at Scouters Hall at Pacheco Park. Attendance will include local veterans and town officials, Boy and Girl Scouts and other community groups. The Scouts will participate by leading a procession and posting the American Flag. They will also lead the audience in the reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Everyone is invited to attend. Following the ceremony there will be a free coalition.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Water Supply Review Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
