Cookie book talk

Local author Debbie Tillinghast will present a book talk on, “A Gift of Cookies, A Gift of Love,” on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m., at the Harmony Library, 195 Putnam Pike. The author will share the story of her family’s Christmas cookie tradition, and how this book developed. Refreshments will be served after the program, including Christmas cookies. Signed copies of her book will also be available.

Candlelight shopping begins

Candlelight shopping in Chepachet begins this week, with the first holiday-themed evening to be held on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 5-9 p.m. Visitors are invited to experience some, “Yankee hospitality,” with local shops decorated for the season, streets aglow with vintage lights and holiday music adding to the old-fashioned ambiance. Enjoy photo ops with Santa & his reindeer at Chepachet Village Wine & Spirits, open mic Christmas caroling and treats from on site food trucks.

This week’s special events include photo ops with Santa & Mrs. Claus at The Town Trader from 5:30 to 9 p.m., local high school students selling Christmas decorations in front of Friendship Lodge #7, along with members will be serving homemade bread and soup to the public with popcorn and Christmas movies being throughout the evening inside the lodge. Chepachet Union Church will host a ham dinner, and
Glocester Manton Library will be offering light refreshments and a children’s craft.

Candlelight festivities will continue every Thursday night in December from 5 to 9 p.m.

Tree lighting

In conjunction with the launch of Candlelight Shopping, the Glocester Recreation Department will hold the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 7 starting at 6 p.m. Jesse Liam Trio will offer a Christmas concert at the event, which takes place at the Kent Field Pavilion, and free hot chocolate and seasonal treats will be available.

Harmony rails

If you haven’t had enough holiday cheer, get your tickets and head over to Harmony Railway & Gift Shop at 474 Putnam Pike for a visit with Santa and train ride on Thursday, Dec. 7 or Friday, Dec. 8. Meet and greet with Santa, take your own photos and hop on the train for a magical holiday light night ride with time slots available from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $8 and are free for children under 3.

Santa visits will continue on Thursdays and select Fridays through December.

Santa parade

Cancelled last week due to weather, the Glocester First Responders annual Santa parade has been rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10, starting at 6 p.m. at the West Glocester Fire station. The parade will travel along Route 44, turning right on West Greenville Road, then right onto Snake Hill Road, ending at Ponaganset High School. Families are invited to park along the route and wave to Santa escorted by emergency vehicles.

Town meetings

The Foster-Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 5 with executive session at 6:30 p.m. and an open meeting at 7 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.
