Trash delay
Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day this week following the celebration of the New Year’s Day holiday. Questions related to the town’s trash and recycling holiday schedule can be directed to (401) 767-2200 ext. 348.
Disaster team
The Ocean State Disaster Team is looking for volunteers and will be doing in person interviews on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 585 Smithfield Road. The group is a team of volunteers that provide emergency food supplies, clothing, toiletries, pet supplies, diapers and even organize donation drives for displaced families and individuals.
Those who have a calling to help neighbors who are displaced by fire and other disasters, are encouraged to reach out at https://osdt.us/join-today/. To interview to join the team, park at the Stop & Shop and attend an interview on Saturday.
Alumni volleyball
The Lady Northmen will play an alumni volleyball game on Saturday, Jan. 6, at North Smithfield High School starting at 2 p.m. Families are invited to watch with a $5 entry fee and all proceeds going to North Smithfield Athletic Association for their ongoing efforts to support school athletic teams.
